About the Book

Reflections of a Khmer Soul is a lyrical journey of self-acceptance as the author questions and comes to term with the Killing Fields and other genocides. This journey involves traveling inside oneself and to a distant past to discuss what it means to be Khmer, a hyphenated American, and different misconceptions about Cambodians and Cambodia, a place that still haunts and inspires her.

Quotes from the book:
“Being Cambodian requires a lot of explanation.”
“What is legal for many Cambodians may not be real or correct.”
“To be Cambodian, you will eventually have to face the consequences of what our people did to each other, but I do not think April 17 is necessarily the date that everyone will do it on.”
